On Tuesday, July 24th, Ohio First Lady Karen W. Kasich and Ohio Agriculture Director David T. Daniels recognized Women in Ohio Agriculture at the Governor's Residence in Bexley, Ohio.
“These Ohio women have had an incredible impact on our state’s largest industry,” said Mrs. Kasich, who announced the creation of the award during last year’s Ohio State Fair. “It is an honor to recognize them today for their strength, leadership, and outstanding contributions.”
Among the nominees were our very own Kathy Rhoads from Rhoads Farm and Eddie Lou Meimer from Pleiades Farm.
Rhoads Farm has been a fixture in the central Ohio community since 1958, and Kathy is a true agricultural advocate. Read more about Kathy and Rhoads Farm in the Spring 2011 issue of Edible Columbus.
Named in honor of his seven daughters, Eddie Lou's grandfather purchased Pleiades Farm in the late 19th century. Today, Meimer is an active advocate and participant in farmers' markets, the dairy industry, and agriculture in general. Read more about Eddie Lou and Pleiades Farm in Our Ohio.
