“Good farmers, who take seriously their duties as stewards of Creation and of their land's inheritors, contribute to the welfare of society in more ways than society usually acknowledges, or even knows. These farmers produce valuable goods, of course; but they also conserve soil, they conserve water, they conserve wildlife, they conserve open space, they conserve scenery.”
Wendell Berry, Bringing it to the Table: Writings on Farming and Food
How do you make the most of your farmers' market trip? There are lots of tips and tricks to making each and every visit more successful. Here are a few that we consider especially important.
Know the Crop Calendar... It might surprise you to know how many people ask about asparagus in December. For most, shopping at a farmers market means buying and eating with the seasons. Visit Our Ohio for a seasonal produce chart.
Ask Questions... Get to your farmers and producers by asking lots of questions. We want you to be satisfied and knowledgeable about where your food is coming from and the farming methods it took to get it there.
